This week, Kelly Morvant and Ashley Austin of Channel One Digital attended a two day social media seminar at LANtec of Louisiana. LANtec is a corporate training center that offers professional development and technical courses that are valuable to businesses of any size. The classes are sensitive to the skill level of those attending, remaining informative to all no matter the student’s proficiency in the subject at hand.

Ashley is our social media expert here at Channel One. She described the LANtec class as “not just a run of the mill computer class, because they offer practical marketing strategies that work no matter where you are in business.” LANtec is truly focused on helping businesses become successful in whichever avenue they wish to pursue, often asking the attendees to think about how they could apply their newly acquired skills to their professions.

In the near future, Channel One will be attending other courses to stay on the edge of the ever growing demands of digital media. We enjoy opportunities to learn and grow in our skill set, because our focus is to bring the best quality we can to you the customer! OUR FOCUS IS YOUR FOCUS.

Companies are using Twitter to get their brand out there, reach out to customers in real time, and offer feedback on the fly. Your business can use Twitter do all of these things with just a few simple steps. Below we have provided you with an annotated crash course to get your business tweeting.

GET STARTED RIGHT!

Pick a Twitter name that matches your company name.

Build up a level of tweets so other users will see you as credible and relevant; somewhere in the 50 to 100 range.

Fill out your profile completely including a URL. .

Create a customized Twitter homepage (that matches your corporate brand as much as possible).

GET YOUR MESSAGE OUT RIGHT!

Try to tweet 5 to 8 times per day.

Only 20% or so of your tweets should be related to your company ; people will stop paying attention to you if you use Twitter exclusively for self-promotion.

Most of your tweets should contain a link to a website, blog post, article, etc. — these will establish you as being a source of great content.

FOLLOW PEOPLE RIGHT!

Follow anyone who mentions your company or keywords that important for your business.

Periodically do a Twitter search on your company name or click on @yourname from right panel to see who is re-tweeting you or mentioning your name.

@reply people to thank people or to just reach out to them.

RT or re-tweet posts that you think are worthy — generally these people will notice and start following you.

You don’t want to grow your Twitter following too quickly — steady growth is better and a goal of growing 100 to 200 per month is a good start for most businesses.
